What Are the System Requirements for Pix4D?

Pix4D is an advanced suite of photogrammetry software that uses RGB, thermal, or multispectral images captured by drones and different types of cameras to generate thermal maps, index maps, orthomosaics, point clouds, digital surface models (DSM), and more.

The software suite is useful in a wide range of applications spanning surveying, construction, agriculture, telecom, public safety, mining, inspection, and other verticals.

Although Pix4D is available as Pix4Dengine Cloud API, many enterprises use the Pix4Dengine Server installed on their own machines for customization, automation, and integration into their reality-capture workflows. In this article, we will focus on the system requirements for Pix4D.

What Are the Hardware and Software Requirements for Pix4D?

Pix4D requires powerful processing capabilities for accurate photogrammetry and drone mapping. Below are the system requirements for the applications.

  • Minimum System Requirements for Pix4D

The minimum system requirements for Pix4D depend on the size of the project. While small projects with fewer than 100 images at 14 MP require only 4 GB RAM and 10 GB HDD free space, storing and processing 100 and 500 images at 14 MP requires at least 8 GB RAM, 20 GB HDD free space. Large projects that involve between 500 and 1000 images require at least 16 GB RAM, 40 GB free hard disk space, and very large projects that need up to 2000 images to be processed and stored require at least 32 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD free space.

Regardless of the size of the project, Pix4D requires Windows 10 64-bit operating system computers, with Intel i5, i7, or Ryzen 7 CPUs, and any OpenGL 3.2 compatible GPU, such as Intel HD 4000 or above.

  • Recommended System Requirements for Pix4D

Pix4D works best with quad-core or hexa-core processors, such as Intel i9, Threadripper, or Ryzen 9. OpenGL 3.2-compatible GeForce GTX GPUs with at least 2 GB VRAM, are better suited to support the workloads.

In terms of storage and RAM, 8 GB RAM, with 15 GB SSD, 16GB RAM with 30 GB SSD, 32 GB RAM with 60 GB SSD, and 64 GB RAM with 120 GB SSD, are recommended for small, medium, large, and very large projects respectively.

Why opt for Pix4D Cloud Hosting?

There are several advantages of hosting Pix4Dengine in the cloud.

  • It eliminates the need to upgrade to modern workstations with dedicated video cards.
  • Local machines do not have to be kept working for extended periods, as the data can be accessed remotely whenever required.
  • Users can work on multiple projects simultaneously, unlike local machines that might get overutilized.
