Instructions to backup data on a BlackBerry smartphone or device

Scenarios for Reference Purposes: Please note that these scenarios are only for understanding the type of issues which this document might be able to address.

Scenario 1: I want to wipe my BlackBerry Device. Before wiping the device; I need to take a backup.

Scenario 2: I have some sensitive data and hence want to take a back-up of my device regularly for sensitive data.

Please follow these steps to take a backup of the data for your BlackBerry Device using BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

To perform a full backup of the BlackBerry smartphone data, complete the following steps:

Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Click Backup and Restore.
Select Backup to perform a full backup.
Select a location to save the backup file, and click Save.

To perform a selective backup for one or more databases, perform the following steps:

Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Click Backup and Restore.
Click Advanced.
Select the database(s) you want to back up from the Device databases selection window.
Click the Arrow that points to the left side of the screen to select the database(s) you want to include in the backup.
Make sure that the correct database(s) are listed in the Computer databases selection window.
Click File > Save near the top left corner of the Desktop Manager window.
Name the backup file and choose a save location.
Click Save.
