Minimum system requirements to install Drupal on a virtual dedicated server
Drupal is a popular open source content management system and serves as a back-end system for many different types of websites, ranging from small personal blogs to large corporate sites.
Minimum RAM needed only for Drupal installation is 512 MB. Apps4Rent’s Hyper-V Bronze plan will allow you to run a light Drupal site with not much of graphics or other additional software. However, it is strongly recommended that you use Apps4Rent’s Hyper-V Silver plan.
Please ensure that the following options are selected in the signup form when using signing up for our Hyper-V server offering. Also, Drupal works best under Linux environment; so you need to choose appropriate Linux server from the offering.
- Apache web server
- MySql database with user (Techsupport/Admin permisisons)
- PHP, templates, CSS
Apache:
Drupal will work on Apache 1.3 or Apache 2.x hosted on UNIX/Linux, OS X, or Windows. The majority of Drupal development and deployment is done on Apache, so there is more community experience and testing performed on Apache than on other web servers.
You can use the Apache ‘mod_rewrite’ extension to allow for clean URLs.
Microsoft IIS
Drupal core will work using IIS 5, IIS 6, or IIS 7 if PHP is configured correctly.
To achieve clean URLs you may need to use a third party product. For IIS7 you can use the Microsoft URL Rewrite Module or a third party solution.
PHP
Recommended: PHP 5.2.x
Database server
Recommended: MySQL 4.1 or MySQL 5.0
